its next-generation Ampere GPU architecture, though the first implementations will reside in chips for servers and workstations along with the DGX A100 for A.I.-based workloads. As usual, I’ve excluded Doom, because everything can run Doom at silly frame rates. Each card has also been tested in the same PC – the Intel Core i5-8600K CPU and 16GB of RAM system I used to review them in the first place – although hopefully I’ll be adding in more results with either a Core i7 or Ryzen 7 CPU very soon to see what each card is really made of with components more befitting of a high-end build. Whereas the Radeon 7 often can’t muster much more than 40fps at this graphics setting (unless you’re the very easy-going Forza Horizon 4 or several years old like The Witcher III), the RTX 2080 Ti is pushing at least that number of frames, if not closer to an average of 55fps, making it much better suited to running the latest games on the very best graphics settings than its AMD rival. That’s sort of to be expected from a £1000 / $1000+ graphics card, but it just goes to show that there’s still quite a big speed gap that AMD isn’t able to cater to yet. Until then, however, Nvidia’s RTX 2080 Ti holds onto its crown as the toppest of top-end graphics cards. It’s fitted with four stacks of second-generation high bandwidth memory (HBM2) and runs at a much higher frequency than the first-generation Vega cards.Nvidia and AMD use different designs in their graphics cards manufacturing, so the specifications aren’t necessarily directly comparable, but here they are nonetheless:To see how these cards performed head to head, we fitted them to our gaming test bench that’s running an AMD Threadipper 1950X (in game mode) and 32GB of memory.
However, both Vulkan and DirectX12 have support for multiple graphics cards as an open standard known as MGPU, so it may be that if supported by games (like The AMD Radeon VII launched with a price tag of $700, but as it is now end of life, it’s hard to find anywhere at anything close to reasonable. The Radeon VII isn’t quite strong enough to be a direct competitor for the likes of the RTX 2080 Ti, especially at higher resolutions, but it’s not far off that. What’s more, even if there is some bottle-necking going on here due to only having a Core i5 CPU at their disposal, it’s happening to both of them, so I’d still expect to see a similar-ish gap between them even if I retested them with a Core i7 or Ryzen 7 CPU.Ultimately, though, AMD’s top-end graphics card just isn’t as top as what’s on offer over at Nvidia, with the RTX 2080 Ti comfortably maintaining its lead as the toppest of all top graphics cards. The 7nm process makes the GPU itself smaller and facilitates a shrinking of the whole die from 495mm² on the Vega 64, to 331mm² with the Radeon VII. For starters, the RTX 2080 Ti costs over £400 / $400 more than the Radeon 7, so it’s not like they’re even in the same potential price bracket. Support RPS and get an ad-free site, extra articles, and free stuff! Their new lineup includes the high-performing RTX 2080 SUPER, 2070 SUPER, and the 2060 SUPER. It may be a little more power-hungry, but the newly shrunk GPU and the massive amount of high-speed memory make it one of the most exciting graphics cards available today.Copyright ©2020 Designtechnica Corporation.
Good. The cards in question are AMD’s Radeon 7 and Nvidia’s RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition, and the games I’ve chosen for this particular comparison test are: Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy XV, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Forza Horizon 4, The Witcher III, Total War: Warhammer II and Monster Hunter: World. Very partial to JRPGs and the fetching of quests. The company promised a 25% increase in performance (compared to non-SUPER cards), mostly thanks to the latest Turing architecture that they’ve rolled out. Find more information Katharine writes about all the bits that go inside your PC so you can carry on playing all those lovely games we like talking about so much. Go have a lie down, Internet.® © 2020. 230.4 GPixel/s vs 116.2 GPixel/s AMD originally offered three free games — When it comes to compatibility, you’ll want a motherboard that supports PCI-Express 3.0 x16 to take full advantage of both cards.
We put it to the test to see who wins in our AMD Radeon VII vs. Nvidia RTX 2080 match. Why is AMD Radeon VII better than Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super?
