UNTIL...I haven't done a DNF is a while. Sounds intriguing right? The memoir also ends far too early, when she's only about 14.
But her fascinating tale does not end when she leaves the rainforest - it has only just begun. by Head of Zeus Street life and more follow but Marina's wits, well-honed in the art of survival, as well her need for genuine human connection, keep her safe for the most part and alive.I bought this book because I love monkeys, and wanted to read this fascinating memoir about a Colombian child abducted and abandoned in a jungle, then taken in by a band of Capuchin monkeys. Although these people got her oThis book is a memoir by Marina Chapman. Maybe a little less judgmental of those who are less fortunate. Acting entirely on instinct, she tried to do what they did: she ate what they ate and copied their actions, and little by little, learned to fend for herself.I spotted this book on my sister's bookshelf and thought it looked interesting.
I don't know why some people have grave reviews on such a great book like this but it may not be everyone's cup of tea - we all have our opinions. We don't know how people get where they do. Regardless, the messages and circumstances in the book itself are quite good. I was impressed this small child managed to survive in the forest. For years, she goes undiscovered, relying on a group of monkeys to teach her to survive. She lived among the monkeys imitating and befriending them in order to survive. It was interesting enough but I found the writing overdone and the plot fairly predictable. The authors attempt at writing dialogue in a London accent just didn't flow for me, and at times was really quite grating. I must say at times I felt sorry for Lisa but she was a brave girl that was determined to not give up amidst the war. 1939. I love Diney Costeloe's books. Marina Chapman was stolen from her housing estate and then abandoned deep in the Colombian jungle. Paroles de 'Girl With No Eyes' par It's A Beautiful Day. The Girl with No Name is the fascinating account of the life of Marina Chapman, kidnapped from her home in Colombia in the early 1950s at the age of almost-five, and growing up in two of the country’s most frightening jungles: the rainforest and the city. Start by marking “The Girl With No Name (The Girl With No Name #1)” as Want to Read: To me it felt as if the author I almost gave up on this several times, but was too stubborn not to finish it. I never had to falter on words because everything was simplistic yet descriptive (if that makes sense xD).
She was abandoned in the jungle when nearly 5 years old and attached herself to a troop of capuchin monkeys, possibly till about age 10; learning to feed herself by copying their eating habits, and after a time, even to climb up into the jungle canopy. The middle of the story fell flat. I must say at times I felt sorry for Lisa but she was a brave girl that was determined to not give up amidst thI loved this book. This book is truly amazing! It had popped up on my Kindle as a recommended book based on other books I have purchased. Yes it is as good! Well she did not die. But truth be told or not, it doesn't matter - this was an utterly engrossing read. There are some very tragic and disturbing aspects to this story, but ultimately it left me feeling awed and grateful for the incredible diversity of human experience, and our potential to adapt to the most arduous of circumstances, even as young children. This essentially begins (after a short preface) with the kidnapping of a young girl who is abandoned and then forced to live on her own in the wilds of Columbia.
The writing is simple (Chapman's daughter interviewed her and they brought in a ghost writer to finish the work), but the story is riveting and revealing.
Every scene of the story is spoon-fed to the reader. The authors attempt at writing dialogue in a LondonI really struggled with this book. Yes there were times I skipped through the immense detail to get to the gist of the page, and it was very sweet most of the time...like a person who is too nice to be real. I, however, was fascinated from the start and was reluctant each time I had to put it down.I spotted this book on my sister's bookshelf and thought it looked interesting. Lisa had two sides to her in this book, her life as Lisa and her life as Charlotte. Among them is one precious photograph of the family she has left behind. Unfortunately the writing was stilted and contained many editing errors that should have been picked up (although this may only be on the Kindle version).
