Despite the mix-up with the cast in Amazon's cast listing this is not the movie from 2005...it is the entire musical performed for the POTO 25th anniversary in London.
Forget the 2004 movie which was a miserable imitation of the live show, this live performance is FANTASTIC. The costuming! I'm just going to take a moment and Phangirl gush here, because this show! The only problem I have is the production quality of the blu ray disc. You can clearly understand Christine's Terror and confusion, and the conflicting emotions she experiences with the Romantic entanglement with Raul and her devotion and obligation to the Phantom. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The show is simply fabulous and the voices of Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess is simply devine. I personally have had some issues with the emotional Arc in the second act, at least in the versions I have seen on stage and also the film version. Sierra Boggess was also brilliant, as was Hadley Frasier as Raoul.
Lasts for about 3 and a 1/4 hours with a special performance of lead song and Music Of The Night sung at the end of the show. This is well worth watching if you're a 'Phan' or seeing it for the first time.
Having seen two traditional live performances in London, which I loved, and then having been a little disappointed with the film, I was glad for all the reviews of those who had seen the performance in the cinema.
All the cast are fantastic and at the top of their game. The sets! Plus the acting is incredibly superb! This CD/DVD is amazing and everything a Phantom or musical fan could ever want! They are truly magical together. The cast was top notch and it was wonderful to see at the end of the performance Sir Andrew Loyd-Webber, the original cast with Sarah Brightman and my very favorite Phantom, Michael Crawford which I got to see perform in POTO in Los Angeles many years ago. Sierra and Ramin are incredible in the lead roles, the rest of the cast are fantastic, the orchestration is wonderful and the costumes and staging are gorgeous. Beautiful music, wonderful songs, brilliant performances what more could one ask? Video availability outside of United States varies. This is a stage production, beautifully filmed. The cast were magnificent, Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom brought a truly wonderful performance as the disfigured genius who falls in love with Christine (played by Sierra Bogus) only to be thwarted by Raoul, a childhood sweetheart of Christine. The tweaks they made for the CD/DVD compared to the final performance night was good; for instance when the Phantom is attacking Christine and Raoul in the graveyard with the fireballs, sound effects have been added to make it much more dramatic, which works very well.
