There are some laughs and some entertaining dialogue in a low budget film, which survives harsh criticism, because Steve Coogan carries the rest of the cast along with his Cluesoesque ability to get it right without really knowing what he is doing. As a British comedy I would rate this as pretty ordinary, just because I hold their comedies up to very high standards and this is only average in that universe. Simon Garden is an annoying Parole Officer who tries to see the best in everyone, fills them with inspirational anecdotes and hope that they'll see the error of her ways, however, as it is hardened criminals he deals with it is about as successful as a Bush Presidency. I was looking forward to this film so much that I was was waiting outside the cinema an hour before it opened, and I have to say I wasn't the slightest bit disappointed. Simon Garden is a parole officer but not a particularly successful one. You've seen similar plots, characters, tension/release "will the good guys prevail against unbelievable odds" elements if you've seen any movies at all. A great English film, Hilarious! He escapes but leaves behind his wallet. "The Parole Officer" is a funny little comedy gem from the UK that has its share of flaws. To understand parole officer duties, it helps to know what parole really is. The cast were great, except for maybe one bad choice, and the acting was great. I really enjoyed this movie. It has a great cast in it as well, such as Ben Miller, Om Purin, Lena Headey and many more. This a brilliant British comedy and will keep you laughing through out the whole of the film. Since i have had it i have watched it about 8 times and still laugh each time. He follows Burton to find out more and ends up witnessing him murdering a known underworld accountant. Indian actor Om Puri dies aged 66 from a heart attack This a very enjoyable film and is a great family film as well only if the kids are older than 12. Intimidated and moved out of his job, Simon realises that the whole thing was caught on cctv and he can use it to prove Burton's guilt but there's only one problem – the security tape has been placed in the vault of the local bank. But you probably haven't seen too many lead characters like Steve Coogan's rather ungifted parole officer in this. Directed by John Duigan. The Parole Officer, unlike The Full Monty, to name a recent case of a comedy with significance as well as gags, draws down no such resonance from contemporary society.

Coogan is recognised by me for his silly way to say "Ryyyyyaight". I was pleasantly surprised! He has constructed in this film a fantastic premise filled with brilliant set pieces and fabulous 1 lines. Parole officers tend to carry lower caseloads than probation officers. Perhaps aware that it can't make its plot line stick, 'The Parole Officer' descends into obvious parody and a odd collection of gags, some cringe-worthy, some potentially funny (but only in a more realistic setting).
Steve Coogan is not the favourite actor amoungst Uk films but in this case he pulled off a stunning performance, I also enjoyed the series "The Office".

The humour is often very amusing indeed, and much does amuse in the film. It was written by the main man and Henry Normal, as most Steve Coogan productions are.

Of his thousand clients, he could only point to three successes; George (Om Puri), Jeff, and Colin. Even director John Duigan, the man behind Sirens, Lawn Dogs and Wide Sargasso Sea, can't lift it above being just adequate. Also filmed not that far away from myself plus one of the actors actually come's from Halifax which makes a change from the normal Hollywood type cast. 5 out of 6 found this helpful. This sort of thing can work in a "mockumentary" ('The Office' obviously comes to mind), but whether such low-key, observational comedy can really work in a comedy thriller is a different question: one might say that the very unlikeliness of this scenario is the film's selling point, but mostly it just seems lame.
